TRIP ITINERARY

Night 1: ARRIVAL DATE - THON THA VILLAGE

There are several buses that you can take from Hanoi to Ha Giang, either day bus or night bus. The bus is not included in the package but we can help to arrange it.

Upon your arrival time, your transfer driver will wait for you at Ha Giang bus station to pick you up at Thon Tha village. Check in at Thon Tha homestay and enjoy your free afternoon. The Tay traditional homestay is the stilt thatched-roof house, everyone sleeps on the floor with a mattress, warm blankets, mosquito net, and pillow, and is separated from other beds by curtain with outside bathrooms.

NOTE: You can leave your luggage at your homestay and bring a smaller bag for 2-day trip because you can take it back on the return day. You should bring your original passport, sun cream, sunglasses, hiking shoes, and some cash for your personal expenses.

Please see more details in the YESD Bus Guidelines.

DAY 1: THON THA – MEO VAC – MA PI LENG PASS – DONG VAN TOWN – 170KM

Start your adventure to Dong Van Loop. Please wear your motorbike protectors, and helmet, and sit close to your driver, which is for your safety and it’s easier for him to drive. On the route, stop at many attractions to take photos and get insight into nature. Listen to a legend of Twin Mountain and the history of Heaven’s Gate in Quan Ba district.

Then visit Lung Tam, a Flower Hmong village to learn how to make embroidery from those experts. Lunch will be served on the route. Then hop on your motorbike with your driver and continue your journey to Ma Pi Leng Pass.

Ma Pi Leng Pass is not long but it is the most adventurous pass in the northern border mountain area. It is considered the “King” of Vietnam’s past or Great Wall of Vietnam or the Pyramid of the Meo. At the top of Ma Pi Leng Mount is the “Happiness Road”, there is a stone stele recording the marks in the construction process. Ma Pi Leng Pass is considered a unique regional heritage of landscape and geomorphology; the pass peak area is considered one of the most beautiful viewpoints to enjoy the panoramic in Vietnam.

Net to the road is abyss, below is the Nho Que River with cool water. If the time is enough and not so dark, your driver and guide will stop you to visit a village on skypath road in the Flower H’mong community.

Overnight at a hotel here.

Day 2: DONG VAN – H’MONG KING PALACE – SUNG LA – NAM DAM – 170KM

After breakfast at your hotel, drive past Phố Cáo, Sủng Là. Stop by these villages to visit H’mong families and interact with the locals. Visit the palace of the H’mong king, which was a royal family of high rank during French colonial rule – this palace attracts keen interest from architecturally minded visitors due to its mixed style of European and Chinese architecture.

The Hmong King Palace is located in the Sa Phin commune, Dong Van district, Ha Giang. In the early nineteenth century, the Vuong family controlled the entire region and Vuong Duc Chinh, head of the family, proclaimed himself “King of the H’Mong”. The construction began in 1920 and lasted eight years. It was not only a building but also a fort in the middle of a rocky highland.

Due to its location which is light years away from modern life in big cities, Sung La was chosen as the location for the award-winning movie Pao’s Story. Since then Sung La has become a popular destination for travelers looking for something different, and of course movie buffs too. Like other villages of minority people, villagers plant corn and other staples. But what is different here is that there are rose fields that cover almost all of the nearby area, with harvested roses being taken to big cities like Hanoi.

Then drive through small villages and past vast agricultural landscapes and the sweeping mountains of the North heading back to Thon Tha and having a dinner here before your driver drops you off at Ha Giang bus station.

The itinerary is subject to change or cancellation due to weather conditions.

  • Included: Ground transport, English-speaking guide, accommodation, activities & meals mentioned above.
  • Not included: Airfares, visa fees, travel insurance, gratuities, personal expenses & all other services not clearly mentioned above.

Ha Chiang loop for an old boy

Well what can I say about my Ha Chiang loop trip I did with Yesd. They were excellent from start to finish. As a 54 year old man I did the loop solo with my driver Chinh as I wanted to avoid the happy water and karaoke aspect. Chinh understood this perfectly and took me on a fabulous trip. We took local routes when he could, avoiding some of main routes. He kept ahead of the ‘Mongolian army’ as he called the throngs of other loopers and often arrived at view points before they arrived …

    A memory for life

An amazing experience! Incredible guides! You almost feel privileged compared to other groups. The accommodation is top-notch; the house, the welcome, the meals—everything is perfect. The mountain trek is magical, the motorbike trek is insane (beware of sore bums by the end!), incredible views the whole time, and super enriching stories. It really puts things into perspective compared to our European comforts—it feels great! To conclude this review, thank you again to the entire YESD Travel team; they are truly wonderful people.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. Is this a private or group tour?

This tour is a private tour which will give you full flexibility to enjoy the way you want. Please be noted that we try to avoid the big crowd to bring you the most authentic experiences. All of our customers appreciated and were super happy doing the trip with us on this private tour. Please do not worry, you make the right choice and we assure that you will not regret this tour option.

Q2. I am a solo traveller; can I join the tour?

Yes, we offer private tours so you can book our tour as a gift for yourself.

Q3. How many days should I do the tour?

We have many options which give you flexibility to choose the most suitable one. The most common option is Ha Giang easy rider 3 days 3 nights. This option gives you the opportunity to cover all must-see destinations in Ha Giang loop while still feel not too rush. If you have a bit more time and prefer a slower pace, Ha Giang loop rider adventure 4 days 4 nights will be the best for you.

If you love hiking, we recommend you to combine backseat motorbike (either 3 days or 4 days) tour with 1-2 days of trekking as well. You will love it!

Only consider 2 days 2 nights easy riders/ backseat motorbike if you have very limited time because this requires you to sit on motorbikes for very long and it might be very tiring.

Q4. Will I be provided with protective gear when being on a motorbike?

Yes, YESD will provide you with a helmet, elbow and knee protectors.

Q5. I cannot ride motorbikes. How can I do this trip?

You will be the pavilion and our guides will take you at the back. You can be free to enjoy the beauty along the way.

Q6. I have experience riding motorbikes. Can I ride on my own?

Yes, you can if you have an international driving license which is accepted in Vietnam. If you do not have, we suggest you to have a guide to ride you. The road in Ha Giang is sneaky and quite uphill and downhill, it might be very difficult to control your bikes. Also, the riding behaviour of other local people on the road is different which might cause some troubles if you do not understand their riding behaviour. Moreover, there are many police stations along the way to check the driving license, you will be fined if you do not have one.

Q7. When is the best time to go to Ha Giang?

Ha Giang is beautiful in every season. At any time of the year, the mountainous landscape here overwhelms visitors with its natural beauty and colourful festival atmosphere.

However, if you need to pick one period, we would suggest you October – November or March – May. During these periods, the weather will be quite mild (not hot/ cold). It’s the perfect weather to do the loop.

If you want to see the yellow rice terrace, Mid-Sept to beginning of October will be the best time. The yellow rice terrace will the in Hoang Su Phi area and not in the loop itself. Therefore, you can combine the loop with some trekking in Hoang Su Phi to admire the beauty of these yellow rice terraces.

    Tour itinerary

Q8. There are some spots in the itinerary I am not particularly interested in, can I skip them?

Yes of course, we will customize it based on your interest and pace. If you want to spend more time in 1 spot and skip the others, we can do that.

Q9. Does it include Nho Que boat ride?

The standard itinerary does not include Nho Que boat ride, however, if you want to add it, please let us know.

    Luggage & Packaging

Q10. What happen with my luggage? Is there any place to store my luggage?

Please prepare a small backpack to bring your necessaries for your days on the loop. Your big suitcase or luggage can be stored at the first homestay when you arrive in Tha village. You will come back here on the last day when you finish the trip to enjoy the last dinner with your host before being transferred to the bus station for your bus back to Hanoi. During the trip on the motorbike, our guides will tight your backpack behind your motorbikes.

Q11. Do I need to bring my own towels and toiletries?

In all of your accommodations, clean towels and toiletries will be provided so you do not need to bring your own. However, you might consider to bring your own if you prefer to.

    Diet

Q12. Is it ok if I am a vegetarian or vegan?

Yes, we cater all kinds of diet. Before you are on your tour, our sales will gather your diet requirement and notify it to the guide and homestay hosts so they will be fully aware of your diet. Ha Giang is still quite not developed yet in terms of tourism facilities so vegetarian or vegan options are mostly local vegetables, tofu, (eggs – in case of vegetarian), beans, potatoes … You will have plenty of them.

    Transportation

Q13. How to get to Ha Giang?

There are several ways you can reach Ha Giang. For this loop tour, you can get there by bus from Hanoi during day time or night time. The bus includes seating bus (Limousine) or Sleeper bus. If you do not know how to book the tickets, please talk to our sales team, they will support you.

We also can arrange the private transportation to transfer you from Hanoi to Ha Giang at extra charge.

Q14. Is it ok if you arrive early in the morning or late at night?

Yes, it should not be any problems. Our driver will come to the bus station or your bus dropoff in Ha Giang city to pick you up. He will be provided with your Whatsapp/ contact number in advance so he will contact you beforehand. Your pickup should be very smooth.

    Booking Process

Q15. What is the booking process?

You leave a request on our website for the tour that you would like to go and add some specific requests if you might have. Our sales team will return to your request within 24 hours (weekend and holiday might be a bit longer – however, we try to get back to you ASAP) with itinerary and quotation. You can adjust a bit on the itinerary if you would like to, if not, you confirm your booking. We will then ask for your personal information to prepare a full itinerary for you and book your services.

The full itinerary with all details of your trips and accommodations will be sent to you via email together with a deposit payment link. A deposit of 30% tour price will be required once you confirm the trip. Once the deposit payment is done, rest assured that all of your services are secured, otherwise, our sales team will notify you. The last payment amount can be paid in cash upon your arrival in Ha Giang.

Q16. How far in advance should I book the tour?

We recommend you to book as soon as you finalise your travelling plan because there are periods when the service is fully booked very fast. To reserve the best services for you, we will need to book well in advance. This will make sure you have the experience exactly as stated.

Q17. Why do you need to gather our personal information?

Your personal information will be used to register your stay to authority. We will not use your personal information otherwise.
