Overnight at local bungalow.

day 1: THON THA – LUNG TAM – HMONG PALACE – LUNG CU- 175KM

Start your adventure to Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark. On the route, stop at plenty of attractions to take photos and get insight into the local life. Listen to the legend of Twin Mountain and the history of Heaven’s Gate in Quan Ba district. Then, visit the Lung Tam linen cooperative, a Flower H’mong village, to learn how to make embroidery from those experts.
Passing by Yen Minh, stop at the palace of the H’mong king, which was a royal family of high rank during French colonial rule – this palace attracts keen interest from architecturally minded visitors due to its mixed style of European and Chinese architecture.
Head on the road again to Lung Cu,  the North Pole of Vietnam. This is the northernmost part of Vietnam, also known as “The North Pole”. The scenery around Lung Cu is breathtaking; the flag pole itself is a spiral staircase you can climb up. It takes you up a high height where the flag is fitted and provides an even higher perspective of the spectacular landscape around it.
Ride to Dong Van ancient town and spend a night here.

day 2: DONG VAN SUNDAY MARKET – MA PI LENG PASS - BAO LAC – 165km

If it’s Sunday, that means you will have a chance to visit Dong Van Sunday market where local wares are bought and sold by local ethnic minority people like the flower H’mong, Tay, Dao, and Giay. Check out your hotel before visiting this Sunday market. This market opens busily only on Sunday when local ethnic youth have a date, or buy some colorful skirts.
It will be a snaking drive from Meo Vac to the Khau Coc Cha pass. Start the adventure today with a visit to the Meo Vac Sunday market, the largest market in Ha Giang. Then, transfer to Meo Vac town by passing Ma Pi Leng pass. Ma Pi Leng Pass is not long, but it is the most adventurous pass in the northern border mountain area.
Your driver will stop you at Skypath to go hiking with your tour guide on an 8 – 10km stunning walk. The path will lead us to some Flower Hmong hamlets and go to Dong Van museum, where you will see huge rocky statues to salute the youth sacrificing to build the road.
At the top of Ma Pi Leng mountain is the “happiness” road, which has a stone stele recording the marks in the construction process. The scenery in Ma Pi Leng Pass is unique, with majestic and wild beauty. Looking to the north and northeast, thousands of gray mountains concatenate to the horizon. Net to the road is abyss, below is the Nho Que River with cool water.
Khau Coc Tra Pass, or the 15-story pass, also known by the locals as Me Pia, is the most famous pass in Cao Bang because of its shape and dangerous road. Located on National Highway 4A, with a length of nearly 2.5km, Khau Coc Tra pass connects Xuan Truong commune to Bao Lac border center, bordering China, in Cao Bang province.
The unique and strange background will be the highlight of your photo. The 15-storey slope of Cao Bang zigzags many bends like snakes, but when you see it with your own eyes, visitors feel it more authentically.
Overnight at a homestay in Bao Lac town.

day 3: BAO LAC – KHUOI KHON – PHUC SEN – NGUOM NGAO – 227KM

Check out your homestay and en route stop, and visit a Khuoi Khon, a Lo Lo village, to interact and learn about the ethnic culture of the Lo Lo tribe. Come to Khuoi Khon, visitors will experience a quiet space, mix in nature, witness the rural life in spacious houses, and explore the unique culture of the Lo Lo ethnic group.

Then, move to Phuc Sen forging village. In the early days, the villagers produced weapons for the soldiers of Nung Ton Phuc and Nung Tri Cao to fight against the Song army. After the war, they made farm and domestic tools such as ploughs, hoes, knives, and scissors. It is also said that the villagers used to cast cannons and grenade casings, especially during the resistance war against French colonialism.
The incense craft of the Nung ethnic minority people in Phia Thap village contributes to the preservation of a traditional spiritual culture. The incense-making craft of the Nung people has a long history. For Phia Thap villagers, making incense not only portrays their national identity but is also associated with the custom of burning incense in Vietnam.
Spend a night at Eco Homestay at a special stone village.

“We traveled with YESD to northern Vietnam for 6 days and 5 nights to Ha Giang Cao Bang regions. It was an amazing journey involving hiking in the mountains, exploring local villages, sailing on the Nho Que River, and visiting local waterfalls, among many more sites. Tung was an excellent tour guide — very knowledgeable, understanding, warm, charming, kind, and very flexible. We really appreciated being with her.
And the driver, Mr Hop was very experienced. We felt safe. We would highly recommend them and the tour to others. We already have very fond memories of our tour.” See more.
