TRIP ITINERARY

Along the journey, you’ll photograph traditional villages, ethnic minority people, ancient Shan Tuyet tea forests, and the dramatic scenery that makes Hoang Su Phi one of Vietnam’s most photogenic destinations.

day 1: HANOI - HA GIANG - TAN QUANG - THONG NGUYEN - NAM HONG

Take an overnight bus from Hanoi to Tan Quang Intersection (Ngã Tư Tân Quang – Hoàng Su Phi). Upon arrival, your local guide will welcome you and transfer you to Nam Hong Village in Thong Nguyen Commune.

After checking into your traditional Dao homestay, spend the afternoon exploring the peaceful mountain village with your camera. Wander through quiet village lanes lined with wooden houses, terraced fields, and forest-covered hills while photographing everyday life in one of Hoang Su Phi’s most scenic Dao communities.

Depending on the season, you’ll have opportunities to capture local villagers working in the rice terraces, traditional architecture, children playing around the village, and beautiful afternoon light illuminating the surrounding mountains.

Overnight in a traditional homestay in Nam Hong.

Day 2: NAM HONG - NAM SON - NAM AI

Today’s photography trek follows winding mountain trails through some of Hoang Su Phi’s most spectacular terraced landscapes.

Walk across the breathtaking rice terraces surrounding Nam Khoa Village, home to the Man Ta Pan ethnic people, where every turn reveals new panoramic compositions of layered rice fields stretching across the mountainsides.

Along the trail, there are excellent opportunities to photograph the daily lives of the Man Ta Pan and Long Tunics Dao communities. Capture authentic moments of farming, traditional clothing and village architecture.

Continue to Nam Ai, where you’ll discover the region’s famous ancient Shan Tuyet tea trees. These centuries-old tea trees, growing naturally in the mountain forests, provide fascinating subjects for both landscape and close-up photography while showcasing one of northern Vietnam’s most treasured agricultural traditions.

Overnight in Nam Ai.

day 3: NAM AI - PHIN HO

Begin today’s trek following the peaceful Nam Thong Stream, where forest scenery, streams, and mountain landscapes provide beautiful opportunities for nature photography.

Reach Tan Sa Phin Heaven Gate, one of the finest viewpoints in Hoang Su Phi, offering sweeping panoramas across endless mountain ranges, deep valleys, and spectacular terraced fields. Depending on weather conditions, mist drifting through the mountains can create dramatic and atmospheric photographs.

Continue hiking over Phin Ho Mountain to reach one of the area’s most remote villages. Along the way, photograph traditional Dao settlements nestled among forests and terraces, as well as the famous ancient Shan Tuyet tea forests, where towering tea trees have flourished for generations.

The peaceful surroundings and remote mountain scenery make this one of the most rewarding days for landscape and cultural photography.

Overnight in Phin Ho.

day 4: PHIN HO - THONG NGUYEN - END OF THE TOUR

If your tour falls on a Sunday, begin the day with a visit to the vibrant Thong Nguyen Sunday Market, one of the most authentic ethnic markets in Hoang Su Phi. Serving twelve surrounding villages, the market gathers members of several ethnic communities dressed in their colorful traditional clothing.

This is one of the best opportunities of the tour for portrait photography, documentary photography, and capturing the lively atmosphere of mountain market life. Photograph local traders, farmers, handmade products, traditional textiles, and fresh produce.

Your guide will arrange local motorbike transportation to the market before returning to your Dao homestay for lunch.

In the afternoon, transfer back to Tan Quang Guesthouse, where you can relax before dinner at a local restaurant.Later in the evening, board the overnight bus back to Hanoi.
The itinerary is subject to change or cancellation due to weather conditions.
  • Included: Ground transport, English-speaking guide, accommodation, activities & meals mentioned above.
  • Not included: Airfares, visa fees, travel insurance, gratuities, personal expenses & all other services not clearly mentioned above.

Ha Chiang loop for an old boy

Well what can I say about my Ha Chiang loop trip I did with Yesd. They were excellent from start to finish. As a 54 year old man I did the loop solo with my driver Chinh as I wanted to avoid the happy water and karaoke aspect. Chinh understood this perfectly and took me on a fabulous trip. We took local routes when he could, avoiding some of main routes. He kept ahead of the ‘Mongolian army’ as he called the throngs of other loopers and often arrived at view points before they arrived …

    An authentic and sustainable experience

It was a unique experience that allowed me to truly experience sustainable tourism. The activities took place in breathtaking landscapes and gave us the opportunity to learn firsthand about the traditions and lifestyle of the local communities. The team was very attentive and took care of every detail to ensure we enjoyed our stay to the fullest. A memory for life

An amazing experience! Incredible guides! You almost feel privileged compared to other groups. The accommodation is top-notch; the house, the welcome, the meals—everything is perfect. The mountain trek is magical, the motorbike trek is insane (beware of sore bums by the end!), incredible views the whole time, and super enriching stories. It really puts things into perspective compared to our European comforts—it feels great! To conclude this review, thank you again to the entire YESD Travel team; they are truly wonderful people.

I will escort you on Ha Giang motorbike or car tour very often if you travel with YESD. Luckily I and my wife both work in tourism industry so she sympathize with my absence when I'm on tour. I have worked with YESD for 6 years. I really like YESD's working spirit when they care of the local communities, educate local people how to protect the environment or give local guides some medical and professional training courses. Wish all the best to our organization.

I used to be a disoriented boy and felt lost in my future career. Until I met V4D non-profit organization where I learnt English and then YESD where I could use my English to work as an English tour guide. Now I have a small family with a little boy and I love my job so much. This job gives me income that is not stable but not so bad. It shows my passion on tourism and pride of my ethnic cultures.

I started to learn English 4 years ago. It has brought great value to my life. Thanks to YESD, I had a chance to study English and tourism skills. I am a local guide and earn more money to support my small family. My English is still not really good but I will improve it day by day. The more you travel with YESD, the better my English will be. Your sincerely friend, Van 🙂
