TRIP ITINERARY

Arrival night: HA GIANG ARRIVAL - THON THA VILLAGE (D)

Please send us your bus information so that we can arrange the pick-up transfer for you. Our driver will pick you up from Ha Giang bus station to the homestay in Thon Tha Village. Enjoy your free time walking around and learning about the local life.

Overnight at a Tay ethnic house in Thon Tha village, 5km from Ha Giang city on the direction to Thanh Thuy border gate.

Day 1: THON THA - LUNG TAM - H’MONG PALACE - LUNG CU NATIONAL FLAG POLE - DONG VAN TOWN (B/L/D)

Start your adventure to Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark. On the route, stop at plenty of attractions to take photos and get insight into the local life. Listen to the legend of Twin Mountain and the history of Heaven’s Gate in Quan Ba district. Then, visit the Lung Tam linen cooperative, a Flower H’mong village, to learn how to make embroidery from those experts.

Passing by Yen Minh, stop at the palace of the H’mong King, which was a royal family of high rank during French colonial rule – this palace attracts keen interest from architecturally minded visitors due to its mixed style of European and Chinese architecture.

Head on the road again to Lung Cu National Flag Pole which is almost the northernmost part of Vietnam, also known as “The North Pole”. The scenery around Lung Cu is breathtaking; the flagpole itself is a spiral staircase you can climb up. It takes you up a high height where the flag is fitted and provides an even higher perspective of the spectacular landscape around it.

Ride to Dong Van ancient town and spend a night here.

DAY 2: DONG VAN - MA PI LENG PASS - NHO QUE RIVER BOAT RIDE - BAO LAC (B/L/D)

Today, you can have a chance to drive on Ma Pi Leng Pass which is not long but one of the most adventurous passes in the northern border mountain area.

Stop at Skypath to go hiking with your tour guide on an 8 – 10km stunning walk. The path will lead us to some Flower Hmong hamlets and go to Dong Van museum, where you will see huge rocky statues to salute the youth sacrificing to build the road.

At the top of Ma Pi Leng mountain is the “happiness” road, which has a stone stele recording the marks in the construction process. The scenery in Ma Pi Leng Pass is unique, with majestic and wild beauty. Looking to the north and northeast, thousands of gray mountains concatenate to the horizon. Next to the road is abyss, below is the Nho Que River with cool water. If the weather and operation conditions are good, you can have a chance to do a boat trip on the river which is memorable.

Overnight at a homestay in Bao Lac town.

Day 3: BAO LAC - KHUOI KHON - KHAU COC CHA PASS - PHIA THAP INCENSE VILLAGE - NGUOM NGAO (B/L/D)

Check out your homestay and en route stop, and visit Khuoi Khon, a Lo Lo village, to interact and learn about the ethnic culture of the Lo Lo tribe. Khuoi Khon community tourist site, Khuoi Khon village is a small village of 56 households of the Lo Lo ethnic group. Come to Khuoi Khon, visitors will experience a quiet space, mix in nature, witness the rural life in spacious houses, and explore the unique culture of the Lo Lo ethnic group.

On the way, you can drive on Khau Coc Tra Pass, or the 15-story pass, also known by the locals as Me Pia, is the most famous pass in Cao Bang because of its shape and dangerous road. Located on National Highway 4A, with a length of nearly 2.5km, Khau Coc Tra pass connects Xuan Truong commune to Bao Lac border center, bordering China, in Cao Bang province. The unique and strange background will be the highlight of your photo. The 15-storey slope of Cao Bang zigzags many bends like snakes, but when you see it with your own eyes, visitors feel it more authentically.

Then, move to visit the incense craft of the Nung ethnic minority people in Phia Thap village which contributes to the preservation of a traditional spiritual culture. The incense-making craft of the Nung people has a long history. For Phia Thap villagers, making incense not only portrays their national identity but is also associated with the custom of burning incense in Vietnam.

Then move to check in your homestay in Nguom Ngao.

Day 4: NGUOM NGAO CAVE - PHAT TICH PAGODA - BAN GIOC WATERFALL - HOLY EYE MOUNTAIN - CAO BANG CITY (B/L/D)

After breakfast, let’s get ready for our exciting boat trip to Ban Gioc Waterfall, one of the biggest waterfalls in Vietnam. Nestled amongst these amazing landscapes of Trung Khanh is the breath-taking Ban Gioc Waterfall, which spans over 300 meters, split half and half between Vietnam and China. You’ll get some time here to simply take in the amazing atmosphere surrounding the falls, which presents an excellent opportunity for some fantastic photography.

Located in Dam Thuy Commune, Trung Khanh District, Cao Bang Province, Phat Tich Truc Lam Ban Gioc Pagoda is the first pagoda ever built in the northern province of Vietnam. From the pagoda, visitors could overlook the whole Ban Gioc Waterfall, wrapped in paddy fields and mountain ranges.

Before heading to Cao Bang city, stop to visit Mat Than or Holy Angel Mountain, according to the native Tay people’s voice, Mat Than Nui has the local name “Phja Piót”, which translates to a mountain with a hole, pierced through as if the wind blew from one side to the other. Thung Mountain proudly stood and watched the lake’s dry season, gradually drying out to reveal the smooth grassy plains. The lakes don’t disappear; they just get tiny, and so they are much greener. His restless blue eyes became more silent and deep.

Then, move to Cao Bang City to take a rest and spend a night here.

Day 5: CAO BANG CITY - HANOI (B/L)

After having breakfast at your hotel, get ready to go back to Hanoi. En route, your tour guide will arrange a short walk around to stretch your legs.

The tour will finish around 5:30 PM. Please send us your hotel address so drop you off there. End of the tour.

An incredible tour of northern Vietnam

We travelled with YesD to northern Vietnam for 6 days and 5 nights to HaGiang and Cao Bang regions. It was an amazing journey involving hiking in the mountains, exploring local villages, sailing on Ngo Qhe River, visiting local waterfalls among many more sites. Tung was an excellent tour guide — very knowledgeable, understanding, warm and charming, kind and very flexible. We really appreciated being with her. And the driver, Mr Hop was very experienced. We felt safe. We would highly recommend them and the tour to others. We already have very fond memories of our tour.

    A memory for life

An amazing experience! Incredible guides! You almost feel privileged compared to other groups. The accommodation is top-notch; the house, the welcome, the meals—everything is perfect. The mountain trek is magical, the motorbike trek is insane (beware of sore bums by the end!), incredible views the whole time, and super enriching stories. It really puts things into perspective compared to our European comforts—it feels great! To conclude this review, thank you again to the entire YESD Travel team; they are truly wonderful people.
