TRIP ITINERARY

NIGHT 1: ARRIVAL DATE - THON THA

Upon your arrival time, your transfer driver will pick you up from Ha Giang bus station and take you to your homestay in Thon Tha village. Check in at the homestay and enjoy your free time. Explore the village by walking around, visiting some local families, and enjoying Thon Tha’s landscapes. This night will be spent at a Tay traditional house. Please see more details in the YESD bus guidelines.

Day 1: THON THA – KHUOI MY – LUNG VAI – HA THANH -18KM – STEEP ROUTE

After breakfast, at 8:30 AM start your Ha Giang Trekker tour through a valley route up to the mountain linking Thon Tha and Khuoi My villages. Your local guide will tell you some local stories, and share information about the Dao Ao Dai ethnic people and culture. Khuoi My village is home to about 200 Dao Ao Dai households, located at the edge of the highest mountain in Northeast Vietnam namely “Tay Con Linh” peak.

In the afternoon, you will trek and hike to Ha Thanh village, which is famous for its mesmerizing waterfall. Visitors can go for a swim or just lie down on the grass and enjoy the peaceful view. Then, look forward to the next two days filled with trekking and exploring the beautiful area. On this night, you will stay at the same local Tay homestay.

Day 2: THON THA – NAM TE – MAU PHIN – XA PHIN – 16km

At 8 AM, be ready to start your Ha Giang trekker to Xa Phin hamlet – called “small Hoang Su Phi”. Roofs of stilt houses covered with thick green moss at an altitude of 1,000 meters above sea level, the Tay Con Linh mountain range that outlines the whole area of Xa Phin hamlet, the Phuong Tien commune, as well as Vi Xuyen district all contribute to the uniqueness and beauty of this mountainous region.

In Xa Phin hamlet, the all-year-round cool weather creates favorable conditions for plants to grow and thrive, especially the green moss on the damp palm-leaf roofs of the stilt houses. Xa Phin village is often cloudy, covered in mist with high humidity accompanied by drizzle. So make sure to bring the right outerwear. Overnight will be spent at a Dao ethnic homestay in Xa Phin.

Day 3: XA PHIN – NA MAU – PHUONG TIEN – THON THA – 18km

Xa Phin hamlet is a part of the Tay Con Linh mountain range, which is known for its ancient tea tree. One of the most famous teas of this region is the Ancient Shan Tuyet tea that grows in the Tay Con Linh mountains at altitudes between 1300 to 1700m above sea level. “Shan” translates to “High Mountain” and “Tuyet” translates to “Snow”, so there is no wonder the climate in the mountainous region is very suitable. It is an essential part of the Vietnamese tea culture, each tea bud is hand-picked, by a member of the local ethnic minority group that lives in the area, from the ancient trees aged from 150 to over 700 years.

In the morning you will go harvest some tea in the forest with a local tea expert. They will educate you about the Vietnamese tea culture, the impact and importance of climate on different types of tea in Ha Giang, and most importantly they will show you how to properly brew your morning cup of tea.

Then, you will have lunch at a local homestay, and continue your Ha Giang trekker tour to Thon Tha village through the breathtaking, buffalo-filled, rice paddies. Dinner will be served back at your homestay in Thon Tha. Afterward, you will be taking overnight transport back to Hanoi and ending our Ha Giang trekker tour.

The itinerary is subject to change or cancellation due to weather conditions.

  • Included: Ground transfer in Ha Giang, English-speaking guide, accommodation, activities & meals mentioned above.
  • Excluded: Airfares, visa fees, travel insurance, gratuities, personal expenses & all other services not clearly mentioned above.

YESD Tours ticks all the Ha Giang boxes

My adult daughter and I are so pleased we took this tour, guided by the friendly and knowledgeable Anh. We covered over 1000km, and doing it on a bike with no experience was not an option for me. Instead we were safely driven along the extraordinary roads, and had time to relax, enjoy the scenery and learn about the history and people of the area …

This was an amazing experience.

It was actually 5D4N. Communication was excellent from the outset. We stayed in beautiful Homestays and a nice hotel. The food provided by our hosts was wonderful. The trekking was great, the scenery magnificent. We visited remote villages and incredible caves. The people we met were all very helpful and friendly. Ms Trang, who organised the whole tour, our driver Mr Lam and our homestay hosts. A special mention for Mrs Tung, our guide. She looked after us so well. Her knowledge of flora was incredible, and she was fantastic fun as well.
We really could not recommend this tour and this company highly enough. They were just brilliant!.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. Is this a private or group tour?

This tour is a private tour which will give you full flexibility to enjoy the way you want. Please be noted that we try to avoid the big crowd to bring you the most authentic experiences. All of our customers appreciated and were super happy doing the trip with us on this private tour. Please do not worry, you make the right choice and we assure that you will not regret this tour option.

Q2. I am a solo traveller; can I join the tour?

Yes, we offer private tours so you can book our tour as a gift for yourself.

Q3. Can children and the elderly join the trek?

Most of YESD’s tours are designed to be moderate. Normal, healthy people can participate. Usually children from 6 years old and older and older adults who regularly exercise can participate.

Children must be able to walk by themselves; parents absolutely must not carry them because the forest path is often difficult to walk. It is easy to fall, which will be dangerous for both the person carrying and the child being carried.

Note: Customers with a history of blood pressure, heart disease, pregnancy or fever are not allowed to participate. Please contact YESD staff for specific advice.

Q4. What is the best season of the year to trek?

From fall (September) to early summer (May) is the ideal time to trek because the weather is very nice. Summer time will be a bit difficult because of high humidity and heat. Please consult with our sales team on the dates you plan, we will give you the best advice.

    Tour itinerary

Q5. How long is the trekking distance each day? Can we request for a shorter or longer trek?

The trekking distance is up to 15km – 19km each day. This can be flexible following your health status and personal interests. Please do let us know if you have specific requirements (such as longer or shorter trek, easy/moderate/ difficult level). Your request will be addressed based on your interest and the possibility.

Q6. What if during the trek I feel I cannot manage to finish it?

Our guide will be always there to check on you. If you cannot manage, our guide will give you some options depending on where you are. Most likely, we can arrange the car to come and pick you up to transfer you back to homestay. IN some cases, cars cannot access, we will arrange motorbikes. Those extra transportations are not foreseen/ included in the tour price; therefore, you are expected to pay extra for it. Please just communicate with our guide and our salesman, your request will be proceeded very promptly.

    Luggage & Packaging

Q7. What happen with my luggage? Is there any place to store my luggage?

Please prepare a small backpack to bring your necessaries for your days on the trek. For 3 days 3 nights trekker, you will sleep in 2 different homestays so you just need to bring your personal things for 1 overnight in another village. Your big suitcase or luggage can be stored at the first homestay when you arrive in Tha village. You will come back here on the last day when you finish the trek to enjoy the last dinner with your host before being transferred to the bus station for your bus back to Hanoi. Our sales team will consult you more carefully depending on which trekking tour you book.

Q8. Do I need to bring my own towels and toiletries?

In all of your accommodations, clean towels and toiletries will be provided so you do not need to bring your own. However, you might consider to bring your own if you prefer to.

    Diet

Q9. Is it ok if I am a vegetarian or vegan?

Yes, we cater all kinds of diet. Before you are on your tour, our sales will gather your diet requirement and notify it to the guide and homestay hosts so they will be fully aware of your diet. Ha Giang is still quite not developed yet in terms of tourism facilities so vegetarian or vegan options are mostly local vegetables, tofu, (eggs – in case of vegetarian), beans, potatoes … You will have plenty of them.

    Transportation

Q10. How to get to Ha Giang?

There are several ways you can reach Ha Giang. For this loop tour, you can get there by bus from Hanoi during day time or night time. The bus includes seating bus (Limousine) or Sleeper bus. If you do not know how to book the tickets, please talk to our sales team, they will support you.

We also can arrange the private transportation to transfer you from Hanoi to Ha Giang at extra charge.

Q11. Is it ok if you arrive early in the morning or late at night?

Yes, it should not be any problems. Our driver will come to the bus station or your bus dropoff in Ha Giang city to pick you up. He will be provided with your Whatsapp/ contact number in advance so he will contact you beforehand. Your pickup should be very smooth.

    Booking Process
