Hoang Su Phi is a remote mountainous district in western Ha Giang, northern Vietnam, famous for its spectacular terraced rice fields, diverse ethnic minority cultures, and dramatic mountain landscapes. Home to high peaks such as Chieu Lau Thi and Tay Con Linh, the region offers an authentic experience far from the busiest tourist routes.
Our Hoang Su Phi tours take you deep into one of the most beautiful and less-visited areas of northern Vietnam. Instead of following crowded tourist routes, you will explore peaceful valleys, mountain villages, traditional communities, and breathtaking Hoang Su Phi rice terraces.
The landscape of Hoang Su Phi is particularly famous for its impressive rice terraces, which have been cultivated by local ethnic communities for generations. Unlike many other rice-growing areas in Vietnam, Hoang Su Phi generally has one main rice crop each year, creating two particularly spectacular seasons.
Around May and June, the rice terraces enter the water-falling season. Water fills the stepped fields, creating beautiful reflections of the sky and surrounding mountains.
From September to early October, the terraces turn golden as the rice reaches harvest season. This is one of the most impressive times to join a Hoang Su Phi tour, especially for photographers and travelers interested in experiencing the region’s rural landscapes and traditional farming life.
Our tours can also introduce you to local ethnic communities, traditional villages, ancient tea plantations, and mountain trails, allowing you to experience Hoang Su Phi beyond its famous rice terraces.
We give local people employment, income and learning opportunities so they are directly involved in your tourism experience. Our guides and hosts will give you a special insight into culture and life in Vietnam.
Responsible
We aim to minimise the negative impacts of tourism on the environment and the local community while contributing positively to local economies. We don’t just talk responsible tourism, we act!
Tours that translate
Part of all profits from our tours go towards a community fund and social projects. This money allows us to make infrastructure improvements, provide other important resources to those in need, and create social projects that bring in real impacts.
Our Hoang Su Phi tours are private tours, giving you the flexibility to explore the region at your own pace. Instead of traveling with a large group, you will have a private vehicle, an experienced local guide, and a dedicated driver throughout the journey.
We also try to avoid crowded tourist areas whenever possible. This allows you to discover quieter mountain roads, traditional villages, local communities, and more authentic experiences.
Because our tours are private, we can also customize the itinerary around your interests, preferred activities, accommodation preferences, and travel pace.
Yes. We offer private Hoang Su Phi tours for solo travelers, so you can enjoy a personalized journey with your own guide and driver without joining a large group.
Traveling solo also gives you greater flexibility to adjust the pace of your trip and spend more time at places that interest you.
Yes. If you are arriving in Hanoi, we can arrange transportation from your hotel to begin your journey to Hoang Su Phi.
If you arrive at Noi Bai International Airport and would like to travel directly toward Ha Giang or Hoang Su Phi, airport pickup can also be arranged at an additional cost.
Please provide your flight or hotel details when booking, and our sales team can recommend the most convenient transportation option for your itinerary.
Hoang Su Phi is beautiful throughout the year, but the best time to visit depends on the scenery and experience you are looking for.
The two most popular periods are the water-falling season around May and June and the golden rice terrace season from September to early October.
During May and June, water fills the terraced fields before the rice-growing season. The terraces reflect the sky and surrounding mountains, creating a spectacular landscape.
From September to early October, the rice terraces gradually turn golden as the rice ripens. This is generally considered one of the best times for a Hoang Su Phi tour, particularly for photography and experiencing the local harvest season.
Outside these periods, Hoang Su Phi remains an excellent destination for travelers interested in trekking, ethnic minority cultures, traditional villages, mountain scenery, and authentic local experiences.
Yes. One of the main advantages of choosing our private Hoang Su Phi tours is the flexibility to customize your itinerary.
If there are attractions you are not particularly interested in, we can remove them from the itinerary. If you prefer to spend more time trekking, visiting local villages, photographing the rice terraces, or interacting with local communities, we can adjust the schedule accordingly.
Our team can create a Hoang Su Phi tour based on your interests, preferred activities, fitness level, travel pace, and available time.
Large suitcases are generally fine because you will travel in a private vehicle during the transportation sections of your tour.
However, if your itinerary includes trekking or hiking, we recommend carrying a smaller daypack with essential items such as water, a rain jacket, sunscreen, and personal belongings.
We recommend comfortable trekking shoes, lightweight clothing, a waterproof jacket, sunscreen, insect repellent, a reusable water bottle, and a small backpack.
If you are visiting during the water-falling or rainy season, waterproof clothing and suitable footwear are particularly useful because some mountain trails can become slippery.
For September and October, bring light layers as temperatures can change between daytime and evening in the mountains.
Yes. We can accommodate vegetarian, vegan, and other dietary requirements during our Hoang Su Phi tours.
Before your trip, our sales team will collect your dietary requirements and inform your guide and homestay hosts in advance.
As Hoang Su Phi is a relatively rural mountain destination, meals are generally prepared using fresh local ingredients such as vegetables, tofu, beans, potatoes, and seasonal produce. Vegetarian travelers can also request eggs where appropriate.
Please let us know about your dietary requirements when booking so we can make the necessary arrangements.
Our private Hoang Su Phi tours use comfortable private vehicles according to the number of travelers.
For 1–2 travelers, we generally arrange a private 4-seat SUV or similar vehicle.
For groups of 3–9 travelers, we can arrange a larger private vehicle such as a 16-seat Ford Transit or similar vehicle.
The exact vehicle depends on availability. If you have a specific vehicle preference or mobility requirement, please let us know when booking.
Traveling by private car is a comfortable way to explore Hoang Su Phi, particularly for travelers who want to enjoy the mountain scenery without having to navigate the winding roads themselves.
During our Hoang Su Phi tours, we choose local homestays whenever possible so you can experience the region beyond its landscapes and tourist attractions.
Accommodation is generally provided in comfortable bungalow-style rooms or rooms within traditional local homestays. Depending on the property, private rooms and ensuite bathrooms may be available.
Staying with local families gives you the opportunity to enjoy home-cooked meals, learn about local customs, and experience everyday life in the mountain communities.
Yes. We highly recommend local homestays because they offer a more authentic way to experience Hoang Su Phi’s culture and interact with local families.
However, if you prefer greater privacy or hotel accommodation, we can arrange hotels instead, depending on availability and your itinerary.
Simply let our sales team know your accommodation preference when booking your Hoang Su Phi tour.
Booking your Hoang Su Phi tour is simple. Leave a request on our website and provide your preferred travel dates, number of travelers, and any special requests.
Our sales team will normally respond within 24 hours with a proposed itinerary and quotation. Responses may take slightly longer during weekends or public holidays, but we always try to respond as quickly as possible.
You can request changes to the itinerary based on your interests, preferred activities, accommodation preferences, and travel pace.
Once you are happy with the itinerary and quotation, you can confirm your booking. We will then collect the necessary traveler information and arrange your accommodation, transportation, guide, and other services.
The final itinerary and accommodation details will be sent to you by email together with a payment link. A 30% deposit of the total tour price is required to confirm your trip.
Once the deposit is received, we will secure the requested services and notify you of any changes or potential issues. The remaining balance can be paid upon arrival in Ha Giang.
We recommend booking your Hoang Su Phi tour as soon as your travel dates are confirmed, particularly if you plan to travel during the rice terrace seasons.
The water-falling season around May and June and the golden rice harvest season from September to early October can be particularly popular. Local homestays, private vehicles, and experienced guides may become fully booked during these periods.
Booking early gives us more time to secure the best available services and accommodate special requests.
We collect your personal information primarily to complete the necessary accommodation registration with the local authorities, as required for travelers staying overnight in Vietnam.
Your information is used for necessary travel and registration purposes and will not be used for other purposes without your consent.
The best tour ever!
If you want an authentic ha giang loop experience, Yesd travel is your choice. Unlike other, more commercial tour operators, this one focuses exclusively on private tours. It will help you avoid the chaos and party atmosphere that characterizes larger groups. We slept at Thien's in his beautiful, authentic homestay. The food was delicious, his family are great cooks, and the location was breathtaking. Thien is just a great person, very helpful, kind, spending time with him was a pleasure. He was also willing to answer all our questions, he is simply great. Contact with the company is also great, I was constantly texted if everything was okay, Ms. Nhi made it a smooth trip and everything was perfectly planned. 10/10!

8 days Northwest Vietnam
It was a fantastic experience with our guide Yin and driver Guan. Both very experienced and showed us many beautiful places and met wonderful people. The guide was honest and also came with suggestions. Sometimes it was not following the itinerary, but the suggestion meet our need better. The communication with Yesd was via email and was excellent. Quick reply and made the tour to our needs. We added 2 more places to visit and it was done immediately. Also during our trip the office asked how it went and also our guide and driver could reach them fast if there were questions. There was a cloud hunting included, but that was a disappointment. Our guide told us that the cloud hunting was only visible in the winter. So, Yesd should be doing some more investigation to the items the put on the itinerary. That was the only downside, all the meals, Accommodations and places we visited were excellent! ❤️ Last note, I've would like to see visiting Yesd social projects in their itineraries, because a part of the amount paid will go to the projects.

Epic trekking adventure
My partner and I did the 3D3N trekking in Ha Giang, guided by Mr. Lim. Logistically, the YESD team was excellent and everything flowed smoothly. Mr. Lim was a wonderfully knowledgeable and sweet trek companion and we absolutely loved our homestay families. The food throughout the 3 days was SO DELICIOUS and generous portions. This was great value for money. Something to note: we are fit, healthy and in our 30's and found the trekking very challenging at times with the heat and steep inclines/declines. Definitely come prepared and ready to bust your butt. Views are sooooo beautiful

Top-tier 3D3N Loop Experience – Seamless Logistics and an Incredible Crew
If you are planning to take on the Ha Giang Loop, I cannot suggest **YESD** enough. We just finished a 3-day, 3-night tour in an open jeep, and the entire experience was flawlessly executed from start to finish. The professionalism started well before we arrived. **Ha Tran**, our coordinator, was a dream to work with. We had a very productive back-and-forth over email to nail down the schedule, and she checked in regularly during the tour to ensure everything was hitting the mark. That level of logistical care meant we could completely disconnect and just soak in the atmosphere. We were even able to tailor our itinerary to include a stunning trip on the Nho Que River. The "boots on the ground" team is what truly made this trip unforgettable. Our guide, **Tung**, is an absolute asset to YESD. His English is fluent, which allowed him to provide fascinating insights into the local cultures and customs we encountered. He acted as a bridge for us during homestay visits, interpreting conversations we otherwise would have missed, and even showed us one of his favorite village bathhouses. Tung is a consummate professional and a genuinely friendly host. Then there is **Ngoc**, our driver. The Ha Giang roads are notoriously narrow and winding with low visibility, but Ngoc is a true road veteran. He navigated the tricky terrain with such familiarity and ease that we felt completely safe the entire time. He knew exactly when to pass slower vehicles to keep us on schedule, but he always erred on the side of safety. Because of his skill, we made great time through the mountains without ever feeling uneasy. Last but not least, YESD was also kind enough to arrange a private driver to take us all the way from Ha Giang to Ninh Binh. Even though it was a grueling nine-hour drive, the transition was perfectly smooth. If you want to experience the authentic heart of Northern Vietnam with a team that treats you like a guest rather than just a booking, look no further.

Riding through Ha Giang in peace and mist
We had an excellent experience with YESD. They were very organized from picking us up at 3a to coordinating our accommodations and expectations. Our drivers were clearly careful and kind - we actually got passed by other groups most of the time, but I liked that! Felt like they were truly careful drivers. Mr. Win's homestay was lovely as is he! The food choices also were great! I do wish that our drivers invested a tiny bit more into what we were looking for - for example, certain viewpoints or walks. Also, even though it was misty/cloudy - the views were still so amazing! I cannot believe a place like this exists. We really enjoyed the cave and Nho Que river excursions.

A Safe and Comforting Trip with Out-going local guides
We had an incredibly safe and comforting experience on the Hà Giang Comfort Car Ride 4D3N. The out-going local guides were attentive, friendly, and always made sure we felt well cared for throughout the journey. Traveling by car was smooth and relaxing, allowing us to fully enjoy the stunning landscapes without any worries. Their deep local knowledge and genuine connection with the communities made the trip both meaningful and memorable. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a comfortable, responsible, and authentic way to explore Hà Giang.

Gorgeous trip in Northern Vietnam with great service
We had such a great time touring through Ha Giang with Ly ly and Mr. Sung. The best thing was we always seemed to go against the traffic and they timed our stops so we'd either be first there or there were very few other people, which made this trip incredible because we were able to enjoy the beauty of it in quiet surroundings. Mr. Sung was very attentive and drove slowly so we could take photos out the window. Miss Ly ly gave us lots of information and always picked great local places to eat so we could get to know lots of Vietnamese food, which was very good. She was always available for questions or if we needed anything, even in the evenings. That was very much appreciated. The accommodation was good too. Always clean rooms and even AC. (We're not fussy.) We especially loved the bamboo bungalows overlooking the rice terraces. That's also where we ate with a local family and the food was incredible. We had opted for a car for comfort and weather but we got lucky and had sunshine every day. Yes D is more expensive than other providers but we agree with other reviewers that it was definitely worth it, the professionalism, communication and service were outstanding. You'll have a great experience.
