NOTE: You can leave your luggage at your homestay and bring a smaller bag for 2-day trip because you can take it back on the return day. You should bring your original passport, sun cream, sunglasses, hiking shoes, and some cash for your personal expenses.
Please see more details in the YESD Bus Guidelines.

DAY 1: THON THA – MEO VAC – MA PI LENG PASS – DONG VAN TOWN – 170KM

Start your adventure to Dong Van Loop. Please wear your motorbike protectors, and helmet, and sit close to your driver, which is for your safety and it’s easier for him to drive. On the route, stop at many attractions to take photos and get insight into nature. Listen to a legend of Twin Mountain and the history of Heaven’s Gate in Quan Ba district.
Then visit Lung Tam, a Flower Hmong village to learn how to make embroidery from those experts. Lunch will be served on the route. Then hop on your motorbike with your driver and continue your journey to Ma Pi Leng Pass.
Ma Pi Leng Pass is not long but it is the most adventurous pass in the northern border mountain area. It is considered the “King” of Vietnam’s past or Great Wall of Vietnam or the Pyramid of the Meo. At the top of Ma Pi Leng Mount is the “Happiness Road”, there is a stone stele recording the marks in the construction process. Ma Pi Leng Pass is considered a unique regional heritage of landscape and geomorphology; the pass peak area is considered one of the most beautiful viewpoints to enjoy the panoramic in Vietnam.
Net to the road is abyss, below is the Nho Que River with cool water. If the time is enough and not so dark, your driver and guide will stop you to visit a village on skypath road in the Flower H’mong community.
Overnight at a hotel here.

Day 2: DONG VAN – H’MONG KING PALACE – SUNG LA – NAM DAM – 170KM

After breakfast at your hotel, drive past Phố Cáo, Sủng Là. Stop by these villages to visit H’mong families and interact with the locals. Visit the palace of the H’mong king, which was a royal family of high rank during French colonial rule – this palace attracts keen interest from architecturally minded visitors due to its mixed style of European and Chinese architecture.
The Hmong King Palace is located in the Sa Phin commune, Dong Van district, Ha Giang. In the early nineteenth century, the Vuong family controlled the entire region and Vuong Duc Chinh, head of the family, proclaimed himself “King of the H’Mong”. The construction began in 1920 and lasted eight years. It was not only a building but also a fort in the middle of a rocky highland.
Due to its location which is light years away from modern life in big cities, Sung La was chosen as the location for the award-winning movie Pao’s Story. Since then Sung La has become a popular destination for travelers looking for something different, and of course movie buffs too. Like other villages of minority people, villagers plant corn and other staples. But what is different here is that there are rose fields that cover almost all of the nearby area, with harvested roses being taken to big cities like Hanoi.
Then drive through small villages and past vast agricultural landscapes and the sweeping mountains of the North heading back to Thon Tha and having a dinner here before your driver drops you off at Ha Giang bus station.
The itinerary is subject to change or cancellation due to weather conditions.
  • Included: Ground transport, English-speaking guide, accommodation, activities & meals mentioned above.
  • Not included: Airfares, visa fees, travel insurance, gratuities, personal expenses & all other services not clearly mentioned above.
