TRIP ITINERARY

night 1: ARRIVAL NIGHT Hanoi – Thon Tha

There are several buses that you can take from Hanoi to Ha Giang, either day bus or night bus. The bus does not include in the package but we can help to arrange. You’ll then check-in to your homestay in nearby Thon Tha Village and have dinner/breakfast with your hosts. Please see more details in the YESD bus guidelines.

Day 1: Thon Tha – Quan ba – Yen Minh – Dong Van (150 km)

After breakfast we’ll set off by motorbike, entering the land known as “Heaven on Earth”. The ride will take you through small villages, past vast agricultural landscapes and the sweeping mountains of the North. The tour will take you past Heaven’s Gate, the famous Fairy Breast Mountains and the Dong Van plateau. You’ll then stop for lunch in Quan Ba. After a short break, we’ll continue riding through the Dong Van plateau, full of impressive scenery and friendly local people. At around 5PM we’ll reach Dong Van town and check into our accommodation before having dinner. You’ll also have time to walk around the town and take some photos and learn about the local culture

Day 2: Dong Van – Ma Pi Leng pass – Meo Vac – Yen Minh – Thon Tha (180 km)

After breakfast, you’ll jump back on your bike, driving through Ma Pi Leng and Meo Vac on National Road No. 4C. This road was built after North Vietnam was liberated and took six long and hard years to be laid. Everyone was so pleased when it was completed it is often referred to as “The Happiness Road”.Ma Pi Leng Pass in Hmong language means “the horse’s bridge of the nose”, implying that horses are nervous about entering the pass because of its sheer cliffs. Some literature sources argue it is actually Mau Pi Leng, describing the feeling of a mouse when it is going to fall into the clutches of a cat. The pass is indeed breath-taking! You’ll wonder at the deep canyon of the Nho Que River below and the surrounding mountains. At around 6PM we’ll return to Thon Tha Village, meeting up again with your homestay hosts and to have dinner and some ‘Happy Water’ if you like.

Day 3: Thon Tha – Lung Vai – Ha Thanh – Thon Tha - Hanoi

You’ll start the day at about 8AM with a local breakfast. Today we’ll trek through terraced rice fields and Tay villages, where you will meet and talk with locals. When you arrive at Lùng Vai village of the Coin Dao people you’ll have a picnic lunch (or if possible, join a Dao family for a meal). After a break, you will then trek to Ha Thanh village, famous for its waterfall. You’ll then finish this trekking loop back at the homestay in Thon Tha Village where you will again enjoy dinner with your hosts. Then take the night bus back to Hanoi at 8PM, arriving in Hanoi at about 3AM.
